Vietnam second city cuts fireworks on Lunar New Year
Ho Chi Minh City has cut its fireworks plan for Lunar New Year’s Eve to reduce wastefulness, said head of the city administration on Friday.

Le Hoang Quan, head of the People’s Committee said the estimated cost for the fireworks of some VND1.5 billion (roughly US$94,000) would be donated to needy families on the New Year festival in mid-February.

In order to prepare a peaceful holiday for city residents, Quan directed relevant agencies to comply with fire regulations and keep round-the-clock surveillance on bird flu outbreaks threat.

He asked fire fighting taskforces to investigate sites susceptible to fire and plans effective measures for possible conflagrations.
