Bogus doctors arrested after deadly cosmetic surgery
Hang Thien Kim (L) and Huynh Trung Hien
A woman from Vietnam’s Central Highlands died Saturday after a cosmetic surgery procedure conducted by two charlatans claiming to be doctors.

Tran Thi R. from Lam Dong province’s Da Lat Town had a nose job (Rhinoplasty) and eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty) performed by 21-year-old female Hang Thien Kim, and Huynh Trung Hien, a male of the same age.

One hour after arriving home, the 52-year-old patient complained of pain in her nose, but family members mistook the seriousness of the complaint, thinking it a product of the procedure and left her alone.

She was discovered dead three hours later when a friend dropped by.

The local hospital said surgical stitches near her two eyes and on her philtrum seeped blood, the likely cause of death.

The two ‘doctors’ were arrested the next day.

They said they performed cosmetic surgeries on four people including R. on Friday at a house belonging to one of the patients.

They have yet to be issued a license to conduct the procedures and confessed they studied the surgeries while working as assistants to a plastic surgeon.

They charge VND1.5 million ($94) for a nose job and VND500,000-VND1 million for an eyelid surgery.

Recently, two doctors from Ho Chi Minh City’s Binh Dan Hospital received suspended sentences after a procedure they conducted resulted in a patient’s death.

The practitioners removed breast implants from the patient at their private clinic.
