Two of the nine crew members of a ship that sank off the northern city of Hai Phong this week have been rescued but the rest are still missing, an official told Thanh Nien Thursday.
Do Trung Thoai, vice chairman of the city People's Committee, said Hoang Thinh 08, which weighed over 2,000 tons, was on its way from Nam Dinh to Quang Ninh, both northern provinces, when it was buffeted by strong winds and waves and sank Wednesday.
The ship, captained by Nguyen Van Thang, had been 13 nautical miles from Long Chau Island when the accident happened.
Border guards in Hai Phong's Cat Ba District sent rescuers to the site the next day after being informed of the accident.
Rescue efforts are continuing.
