A ferryboat carrying 60 passengers sank after it crashed into another ferryboat on the Mekong Delta's Hau River on Thursday.

No casualties were reported.

Witnesses said the accident happened at around 1 a.m. when a 200-ton ferry-boat with over 100 passengers bumped into another one 10 meters away from Dong Thap Province station.

The collision made a large hole in the latter and terrified passengers.

A local rescue operation managed to save all the passengers before the ferryboat, with six cars on board, sank.

Local news source VnExpress quoted rescuers as saying that they found a hole 20 centimeters wide and 50 centimeters long on the boat.

The engine on the other boat was damaged but it still managed to approach the river bank, VnExpress said.

An investigation into the accident's cause is now underway.
