Police in the central Vietnamese province of Quang Nam arrested six members of a gang that allegedly circulated counterfeit money after stumbling across them while carrying out another investigation.
They first caught Le Thi Thuy An, 23, using eight fake VND200,000 (US$9.59) bills before taking in five others with a total of 34 notes.
They said they came to know about the gang's activities while investigating another case in which Nguyen Van Quoc, 35, has been accused of circulating fake bills worth a total VND48 million ($2,300) since March last year.
Quoc told the police he bought the notes, of VND100,000 and VND200,000 denominations, on the Chinese border in the northern province of Lang Son.
He and his accomplices then used the fake money to buy goods in Da Nang city and many places in Quang Nam Province.
The police are looking for his accomplices, and are continuing investigations into both cases.
