At least six people died as floods triggered by rains that followed a tropical storm early this week submerged many areas in central Vietnam over the last few days.
Torrential rains raged Ha Tinh, Nghe An and Thanh Hoa provinces from early this week, causing local rivers to overflow and flood many areas, according to news website VnExpress.
Two boys aged 10 and 17 in Ha Tinh’s Huong Son and Huong Khe districts were washed away by floods on Thursday afternoon. Their bodies were recovered later the same day.
In Nghe An, a six-year-old boy was also swept away by floods on Thursday.
A 57-year-old woman in Thanh Hoa was fatally struck by lightning in a thunderstorm while she was working on a paddy field Thursday afternoon.
The identity of the other two victims were not mentioned.
Floods also caused landslides, submerged crops and disrupted traffic in some mountainous areas in the provinces.
