A five-year-old boy died after falling from a fifth floor apartment in Ho Chi Minh City Wednesday, news website VnExpress reported.
Le Huu Hau had been playing in the balcony of his parents' apartment in District 10.
A witness was quoted as saying that he and others saw Hau standing alone in the balcony, and were about to inform his family when the boy reached out over the railing and fell.
He hit some wires before falling to the ground and dying instantly, the witness added.
Hau had been locked up at home by his mother Doan Thi Hue, 30, who had gone to the market. His father Le Ngoc Vu, 25, had gone to work.
A sobbing Hue later said the boy had refused to go with her to market saying he wanted to stay at home to watch TV.
The couple had only brought Hau recently from their hometown in the southern province of Dong Thap to attend a relative's funeral earlier that day.
Authorities are investigating.
Last month a four-year-old girl also died after falling from a 15th floor apartment in Nha Be District, HCMC, when her parents were away.
She was possibly trying to grab a falling iPad which was found next to her body with a broken screen.
