Hanoi police confiscated 50 air rifles at Noi Bai Airport on Monday.
The guns had been broken down into parts and packed into the consigned luggage of Nguyen Van Duoc and Nguyen Ngoc Hoan, who both claimed that they had been working in the Czech Republic and had come home to visit family.
Duc later told customs police that they planned to sell the guns at a considerable profit. He said the guns only cost about 3,100 koruna (US$146.72) in the Czech Republic and sell for over VND10 million ($473) locally, according to a story published by Tuoi Tre.
Vietnamese laws prohibit the import, possession or sale of toy and air guns.
Police are investigating the case further.
