Five Vietnamese were arrested in Latvia Tuesday for illegally crossing the border from Belarus, allegedly on their way to Western Europe to find jobs.
Leta newswire cited a source from the Latvian National Border Guard as saying that they were tipped off by Belarus border guards and found signs of border crossing before they caught four Vietnamese.
A trained dog and a helicopter crew helped arrest another Vietnamese and a Russian trafficker.
The Vietnamese said they hoped to find jobs in Poland, Germany or the UK, according to the report.
It is the second incident this year in which Vietnamese have been caught crossing into Latvia illegally. On February 1 four Vietnamese and a Russian trafficker were arrested.
Russian border guards also stopped 37 Vietnamese from entering Latvia this year.
Last year 476 people were detained for illegally crossing Latvia’s border with Russia and Belarus. Most of them were Vietnamese, Leta reported.
