Five people were killed in a fire which broke out in a house where motorbike saddle covers and mattresses were made in the southern province of Dong Nai Sunday night.

The victims included four members of a family six-year-old Tran Ngoc Anh Tuyet, her mother Tran Thi Kim Tuyen, her grandparents Tran Van Be and Tran Thi Thao and a nurse, Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, who was take caring of the old couple.

Their bodies were recovered from the two-story house in Bien Hoa, the provincial capital, after the fire was put out following a two-hour battle at 8:30 p.m.

Six fire trucks and hundreds of firefighters were pressed into service.

Eyewitnesses said the fire started in the ground floor and spread rapidly thanks to many inflammable items like artificial leather and cloth, making it impossible for the people inside to escape.

The fire also spread to two neighboring houses.

The Dong Nai police are investigating the cause of the fire and working with the Dong Nai General Hospital to do DNA tests to identify the victims, who were burned too badly to be identified.
