A gas pipe leading to bathroom heaters exploded in a guesthouse in northern Vietnam Wednesday, injuring five guests.

The victims, from the southernmost province of Ca Mau, include two women aged 28 and 30, two girls aged 18 and 19, and a three-year-old, news website VnExpress reported.

Preliminary investigations found that gas leakage could have caused the explosion in the second-floor room at Van Ly guesthouse in Ha Long.

All five victims have been hospitalized.

Police are continuing with their investigation.

Vietnamese authorities have raised the alarm about poor gas safety after some fatal accidents last year, all in Hanoi.

In one case in December a leak killed a woman and her seven-month-old son at a gas retailer's. In early November two children died after a gas cylinder explosion razed a house.

In Ho Chi Minh City, a gas cylinder explosion at a restaurant injured two people in November.
