They worked for Song Da Investment and Construction JSC to build a dam for a hydropower plant located next to the mountain. The project, invested by Hanoi-based Bitexco Group, started in August 2012.
A Lao Dong newspaper report said some 25,000 cubic meters of rock fell on the construction site on May 16. An excavator was totally smashed, while three trucks and other machines were also damaged.
Thousands of tons of rocks had to be removed before the bodies were found.
One of the injured was rushed to Hanoi due to severe injuries.
Local authorities have granted each of the dead’s family VND4 million (US$189) and the injured’s VND2 million.
The local police is investigating the cause of the accident.
