Five people, including part time models and actresses, were arrested last week in Ho Chi Minh City, accused of working as prostitutes and procuring sex, according to police.
The police, in a press release on Tuesday, said four women were arrested in a prostitution sting in HCMC on April 7 in which the police raided three hotels in Districts 1 and 12.
Investigators have also detained Le Huu Loc, a film director, for allegedly "procuring prostitution."
The police said Loc, 42, and the women charged between US$500 and $1,000 per customer, of which Loc received a 20 percent fee.
The arrests had been kept in secret prior to Tuesday, prompting relatives of two of the accused prostitutes to report to the police that they were missing.
Their sudden disappearance caused netizens to speculate that they might have been kidnapped.
