Ba Ria Vung Tau police have arrested five women accused of impersonating as prostitutes in order to rob foreign tourists in the beach town of Vung Tau in southern Vietnam.

The provincial investigation police on Friday detained Ho Kim Phung, 45, Nguyen Thi Anh Phuong, 53, Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, 30, Le Thi Bich Tram, 20 and Tran Kim Dung, 45, all natives of Vung Tau.

Investigators said these women often visit hotels and bars in Vung Tau offering sex to foreign male tourists before robbing them.

The latest incident took place around 11 pm on Friday when Phung Dung and Phuong approached Philip Archibald Whitman, a 59-year-old English tourist, walking near the Grand Hotel.

After the man agreed to their offer for sex, Dung took him to a hotel in A Chau Area in the town's District 2. Phung and Phuong followed them on another motorbike.

At the hotel, Phung and Phuong took Whitman's money in his wallet while he and Dung were taking a bath.

The duo phoned Trang and Tram, who arrived at the hotel to share the money. They were all caught red-handed by town police, who had secretly followed them.

Police are searching for a 37-year-old man, Nguyen Van Xuyen, the gang's alleged kingpin.
