4 youths drown in central Vietnam

Four youths two females and two males - drowned during a picnic at a stream in the central province of Quang Nam Sunday, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The accident happened at around 11 a.m. after the youths arrived at  Tien Stream in Que Son District for a picnic.

While walking along the stream, Vo Thi Phap, 17, took a false step and fell into deep water area.

Upon hearing her scream, her friends Phan Thi Minh Tuyen, 17, Tang Dinh Tien, 21, and Huynh Trong Bach, 19, jumped into the water to save her.

However, all four swept away by swift-flowing waters and drowned.

Phap and Tuyen were 11th graders at Tieu La High School in Quang Nam while Tien and Bach were male students of two universities based in Quang Ngai Province and Da Nang City.

Nearby residents discovered their dead bodies in the afternoon and called police to the site.

The dead were then brought to their hometowns for burial.
