Police in the northern province of Lang Son said they had arrested four members of a gang suspected of smuggling weapons to China, news website VnExpress reported.
They busted the gang in a joint operation with Chinese police, according to the report.
Trinh Van San, 56, his daughter Trinh Thi Hau, 31, Tran Anh Dung, 50, and Ly Van Su, 25, are detained for “illegally trading and transporting military weapons.”
Between October 2014 and April 2015, Dung and Hau allegedly sold 26 guns and 347 bullets in 13 occasions via roads along the border with China.
From mid-2013 to late 2014, San and Hau sold seven guns and 56 bullets to a group of buyers in China. Chinese authorities had arrested the men, seized the weapons and informed Vietnamese police.
Police have not disclosed how the guns and bullets might have come into the possession of the gang.
