4 PetroVietnam officials investigated for economic mismanagement

Police at the Ministry of Public Security said Monday they are investigating alleged wrongdoings by four officials of a PetroVietnam subsidiary.

PetroVietnam is the state-owned Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and the subsidiary in question is the  Petroleum Mechanical Executing and Assembly Joint Stock Company (PVC-ME).

The officials being investigated are: Bui Trong Chinh, former deputy director, Dinh Ba Luong, former chief accountant, Pham Thi Hai Ha, cashier, and Le Thai Nam, who was in charge of the construction site of an ethanol-blended gasoline plant built by PVC-ME in Phu Tho Province.

The probe will look into alleged irregularities involving the plant, police said without elaborating.

If found guilty, the officials could face charges of "intentionally violating State's regulations on economic management, causing serious consequences," the police said.
