Police in the southern province of Can Tho Saturday arrested three men for allegedly attacking traffic police officers the previous day.

The three had been stopped at 8 p.m. Friday for exceeding the limit of two people to a bike, not wearing crash helmets, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

They first used abusive language before Huynh Van Bo, 36, one of the three, grabbed an officer who was about to take their motorbike to a police station by the collar, pushed him to the ground, and kicked him on his chest.

Another policeman at the scene had to call for back-up to control him and the two others, Truong Minh Hau, 27, and Le Van Chien, 23.

Meanwhile, in Ho Chi Minh City, Pham Duy Bien, 31, is being held for three months for deliberately driving his truck at police officers and their motorbike.

The truck had been flagged down for encroaching on the motorbike line. Bien, who was the driver's assistant, drove straight at the officers after the driver had got off to try and bribe them.

He faces charges of preventing public officials from discharging their duty.
