Police in the northern province of Quang Ninh said Tuesday they have arrested three people on suspicion of trafficking nearly 18 kilograms of heroin to China.
Colonel Phuong Minh Quang, political commissar of the province police, said the suspects, whose names were not revealed, were caught with the drugs a day earlier.
According to a report on news website Dan Tri, they told the police that they were from Ho Chi Minh City and carrying the drugs to Guangzhou, China, for a woman in Hanoi.
The police are investigating.
Vietnam has some of the world's toughest drug laws. Those convicted of smuggling more than 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kilograms of meth face the death penalty.
