Police in Thai Binh Province in northern Vietnam on Monday arrested three people who allegedly killed a guest at a motel they were working for, after suspecting the man had tried to steal their dog.
Investigation found the three male suspects, who were between 19 and 29 years old, electrocuted the 27-year-old victim to death before hanging him to stage a suicide.
The suspects said that they had argued with the guest as they believed that he was stealing their dog, which was found tied up and muzzled in the common bathroom of the motel.
The dog has not been injured.
Some people in Vietnam consider dog meat a delicacy and there has been an increasing tension between dog owners and those serving the dog meat trade.
The conflict has many times gone extreme and several dog thieves were killed as dog lovers used mob justice to solve the problem.
