Police in northern Vietnam have arrested four people including a Chinese man accused of smuggling 3.5 kilograms of methamphetamine from China.
Mo Jing Lei, 36, from Guangxi, was arrested last Friday in Hai Phong City with the ring leader Pham Duc Dung, 34, and two Vietnamese accomplices.
Dung told the police that he worked with Lei to find drug supplies in China and had his accomplices smuggle them through the border gate of Mong Cai and sell the drugs in northern provinces.
Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Those convicted of smuggling more than 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kilograms of methamphetamine face the death penalty.
The production or sale of 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal narcotics is also punishable by death.
