Three Hanoi University of Business and Technology students, who killed a fellow student in his classroom last Wednesday for looking at one of them in an "annoying" manner, have all given themselves up to the police.

Bui Ngoc Quan, 21, told the police he stabbed Vu Ngoc Cuong, 20, repeatedly with a knife. Cuong died of a heart wound, the police said.

Quan's cousin Bui Anh Phan, 20, and friend Nguyen Hong Quan, 22, had hit and kicked Cuong before he died.

Ngoc Quan said Cuong had looked at him in an "annoying and disrespectful" way, so he and the other two had plotted to attack him.

The friend surrendered to the police the same day and Ngoc Quan, the next day.

The last of the trio, the cousin, turned himself on December 24.

The police said Ngoc Quan was arrested once in 2008 for causing public disturbance and again in 2009 for deliberately harming another person.

His parents are divorced and he has lived with his grandmother since very young.

Vu Van Hoa, vice president of the university, said there were around 20,000 students and managing them is not "a simple job."

The school has decided to install more cameras in addition to the existing ones in its parking lot, he said.
