3 men injured as moving car catches fire in southern Vietnam

Three men were badly injured Wednesday when a car in which they were traveling suddenly caught fire in the southern province of Dong Nai.

Witnesses said that at around 2 a.m. they heard an explosion from the Daewoo Gentra car in which Nguyen Tan Thanh, 36, Nguyen Ngoc Thien, 37, and Nguyen Kim Son, 29, were traveling.

A fire soon began to rage, and the three were trapped inside, crying for help.

Passers-by broke the car's windows and rescued them.

The victims were rushed to the Dong Nai General Hospital with injuries and asphyxiation.

The car's front was seriously damaged.

The police are investigating.

In 2010 and 2011, Vietnam recorded 324 vehicle fires and explosions, mainly in cars, of which only 209 cases have had solved so far.

In June Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung ordered concerned agencies to speed up investigations to quickly determine the causes of the remaining fires.
