The Da Nang police have arrested three Malaysian men for allegedly using fake credit cards to cheat local shops out of nearly VND200 million (US$9,500), Tuoi Tre reported Tuesday.

Ling Seng Koey, 23, and Chong Kon Hoi, 47, were seized Saturday when they, together with Wong Kar Wei, 30, bought jewelry worth over VND54 million ($2,500) at Jewelry World in the Indochina Riverside building.

The police said shop assistants discovered the card they used was fake after calling a bank to check.

Wong managed to flee with the jewelry, while Ling and Chong were handed over to the police by shop employees.

Wong was arrested the next morning when he was heading for Binh Thuan Province in a taxi, the police said.
