A young couple and their 5-year-old daughter drowned in a lagoon in Thua Thien-Hue Province Sunday night when their fishing boat capsized.
Locals around the Tam Giang Lagoon found the bodies early Monday morning, at 200 meters offshore and three meters deep.
Rescuers said that the couple may have tried to pull their net, which was stuck to a pole, but ended up overturning their boat.
Some locals said they had heard screams for help. But when they rushed over, the boat had already sunk.
The husband Tran Ha, 26, could swim, but his wife Nguyen Thi Hue, 24, and their daughter could not.
The small family lived with Ha’s parents.
They borrowed money to buy the boat several years ago to fish in the lagoon, which is almost always calm.
