3 die, 6 injured in truck crash on Vietnamese mountain pass

Three people were killed and six others were injured after their truck crashed into a cliff while traversing a mountain pass in the central province of Phu Yen on Tuesday.

The accident happened when driver Nguyen Van Phan, 38, lost his control of the truck on Tra Ke mountain pass in Son Hoa District.

Phan and Nguyen Van Huu, 44, died instantly, while Huynh Van Thai, 44, succumbed later to injuries at Son Hoa General Hospital.

Six others, who had been seated in the truck's cab sustained injuries.

Initial information was that the truck was on its way from the nearby Binh Dinh Province to the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai, transporting watermelon farmers.

Police are investigating the case further, said Le Ngoc Tu, chief of Son Hoa District's police division.
