3 dead, 7 injured in Vietnam truck-bus collision

Three people were killed and seven others injured when a sand-laden truck crashed into a bus in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong last Wednesday.

The deadly accident happened at around 7:30 a.m. on the road from Da Lat to Nha Trang when the truck collided head-on into a Phuong Trang bus traveling to Nha Trang.

Nguyen Van Hoi, 40, a truck driver's assistant, Cao Minh Son, 25, his counterpart on the bus, and bus passenger Pham Thi Dieu Thanh, 68, died on the spot.

The two drivers and and five bus passengers were injured.

The bus driver, Nguyen Xuan Ha, 37, who was the most seriously injured, was stuck in the bus for 30 minutes until rescuers extricated and rushed him to hospital.

Truck driver Pham Van Su told police two young men on a motorbike had sped in front of him, forcing him to slow down and veered to the left to avoid hitting them. The bus was traveling at high speed and crashed into the truck.

The police are investigating.
