Customs officers in the central city of Da Nang caught three Chinese men separately trying to smuggle a total of US$83,000 out of Vietnam, Nguoi Lao Dong (Laborer) newspaper reported Monday.
Que Sheng Qi, 49, was found with undeclared dollar bills worth $20,000 in a carry-on bag as he was about to take a flight to Hangzhou on November 12.
Later that day Lu Hui Quan, 41, a passenger traveling to Guangzhou, was caught with $48,000 also in his carry-on bag.
Two days later officials found $15,000 in a bag carried by Gu Hui Jun, 43, when he was about to take a flight to Macau.
Nguyen Quang Lang, chief of the customs agency, said the cash was confiscated and handed over to the Da Nang Customs Department.
Vietnamese law allows a maximum of $5,000 to be carried without declaration.
