Customs officials in northern Vietnam have caught three Chinese boats trying to smuggle diesel from China to Vietnam this month.
On December 12 they seized two boats off Quang Ninh Province, which borders China, each carrying 50 and 60 tons of diesel.
Another boat with 180 tons of the fuel had been seized a week earlier, the official Vietnam News Agency reported.
The diesel was valued at more than VND6 billion (US$285,500).
Customs said smuggling in Quang Ninh waters usually worsened during year-end, with coal, fuel, and tobacco the main items smuggled.
