Three Jarai ethnic children aged 7-8 drowned in a pond in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on Wednesday, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported.
The children, who are also counsins, reportedly had a day off at school and went out to play.
Their families did not see them coming back home and went to seek them at around 7 a.m. the same day.
They then found the kids dead under a pond, used to reserve water for coffee plantations, some one kilometer from their houses.
The pond is 3-5 meters in depth but the water level in the pond is only around one meter high, according to police.
They assumed the kids were playing near the pond’s mouth and slipped into it by accident. They are still investigating.
