Police in Vietnam's Lao Cai Province, which borders China, have arrested three people for allegedly cheating and trafficking two teenage girls and a woman to China in two unrelated cases, Vietnam News Agency reported Tuesday.

One of the suspects, Thao A Dung, 18, was taken in on Monday after Vang Thi P. and Giang Thi S., both 16, were rescued in China and complained about him to authorities at the Lao Cai border.

Border guards said the victims' families had complained that they had been cheated and sold across the border.

Earlier the Bac Ha District police arrested Ma Seo Si, 17, and Ly Seo Vu, 27, on suspicion they had trafficked 23-year-old Chau Thi G. to China for 6,000 yuan (US$947).

G. complained about them after being rescued by Chinese police and returned to Vietnam.

The cases are being investigated.
