Three young men were arrested for organizing an illegal motorbike race on the runway of a military airport in the resort town of Da Lat Wednesday.
The men, Nguyen Hoang Phi, 20, Hoang Cong Nhat Truong, 20 and Nguyen Phuc Hau, 17, were caught while they were racing in Cam Ly Airport at around 2:30 PM.
Da Lat police said they are looking for three other racers who fled after leaving their motorbikes on the runway.
The police seized six motorbikes, which "were modified to reach high speed,” said major Nguyen Van Hung of Da Lat Traffic Police Branch.
The trio said they had raced in the airport for two days to avoid police patrols on the street.
Located on an altitude of 1.5 kilometers above sea level, the Cam Ly Airport has a runway of 1,350 meters (4,430 feet).
It has being used as a backup military airport, but Da Lat authorities have proposed to transform it into a civilian airport.
