Three suspects were arrested on Wednesday as police of Nghe An Province continue to investigate a shootout that killed a woman and injured two others the previous night.
The police refused to disclose the identity of the suspects, but said the assailants were members of a group that raided the house of Nguyen Thi Hang's, who was shot in the chest and died at 9pm Tuesday.
A source told Thanh Nien that police suspect Hang's husband Tuan, a known gangster, was the target of the attack, but the assailants' shot missed him and killed Hang, the source said.
Tuan struggled with an assailant, who apparently fired off another shot that hit the floor, police said.
The gang group then fled the house and fired back a few more shots, which accidentally injured two street cleaners working nearby.
One worker Dinh Thi Chung, 24, had to receive surgery at Nghe An General Hospital where doctors removed bullet fragments from her liver and abdomen.
Doctors said she'll have to undergo more surgeries to remove fragments in her arms when her condition improves.
Her colleague, Dang Van Chung, who've got some minor injuries, was discharged Wednesday morning.
