Doctors in the Bac Lieu southern province said Monday that a two-year old boy, who had been admitted to the hospital two days earlier after being severely tortured by his grandmother, was transferred to a children’s hospital in the neighboring province of Can Tho.
Khuong Nguyen Minh Khoi was hospitalized into the Bac Lieu General Hospital with vague consciousness, two swell eyes, which could not open, and many bruises on his belly and legs. A CT scan later found that he also got a brain oedema.
After a two-day care, Khoi’s condition has got better, although he still need to receive more treatments, doctors said, adding that his mother Khuong Tuyet Nhung had asked to transfer her son to the Can Tho Children’s Hospital.
Nhung has just come back from Ho Chi Minh City after hearing about her son's situation.
Khoi’s grandmother Thach Thi Suong, who has lived with Khoi since his mother left him behind to seek a job in the southern metro last year, was allegedly the culprit of all of his injuries, police said.
While playing at home on Saturday afternoon, the toddler inattentively broke his grandmother’s phial of medicated oil.
The 64-year old woman later discovered that and continuously beat her grandson before applying the leaked medicated oil into his eyes.
Police on Monday summoned Suong for interrogations about the case. Suong reportedly confessed that she had tortured her two-year-old grandson.
