Five people have been arrested in the northern Vietnamese city of Hai Phong for allegedly circulating counterfeit money, newswire Phap Luat TPHCM (HCMC Law) reported Tuesday.
The city police and the Ministry of Public Security caught Le Thi Huong and Ngo Thi Mai red-handed with forged bills, it said.
Huong reportedly confessed to officers that between September and December she had smuggled in forged money worth VND170 million ($8,000) from abroad and supplied it in Hanoi and the northern province of Bac Ninh.
Officers later took in three others and confiscated counterfeit money worth more than VND280 million ($13,300) from them.
The investigation is continuing.
