2 women accused of selling baby to pay hospital fees in Hanoi

Police in Hanoi are investigating a woman and her mother for allegedly selling her newly-born baby to a man for money to pay the hospital for her delivery.

A report on Dan Tri Monday said Nguyen Thi Hong V., 28, and Nguyen Thi H., 57, were accused of receiving VND20 million (US$951) from Do Van H., 62, after selling the baby V. gave birth to on August 2.

According to the women, they did so to have money to pay V.'s hospital fees after she gave birth, the news website reported.

The case is being investigated further.
