Police in the southern province of Tay Ninh have arrested two Vietnamese women for trafficking women to Malaysian brothels.

Dao Thi Truc Phuong, 22, and Nguyen Thanh Thao, 28, were taken in Thursday when Thao was caught crossing the Cambodian border into Tay Ninh with three of their victims who were returning home from Malaysia.

Phuong, who lives with a Malaysian man, admitted to the police she ran the operation and paid Thao VND40-50 million (US$1,920-2,400) a month.

She would dupe women by promising to get them jobs as waitresses at karaoke parlors in Malaysia, but then force them to work in brothels.

She had sent the three women home after hearing from sources that the Vietnamese police were on to her.
