Two tornados hit Co To Sunday without causing any damage, and more are forecast to hit the popular tourism island near Ha Long Bay today.
Many tourists and locals said the first storm came at around 9 a.m. and lasted around 10 minutes. The second, also approaching from the sea, hit at around 1 p.m. and lasted three minutes and caused heavy rain.
No casualties were reported on the 21-square-kilometer island.
However, in Hanoi’s southeastern districts, strong winds at around 3 p.m. Sunday swept away the roofs of many houses and felled electric poles and billboards.
According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, bad weather is forecast in the northern region today with rough seas and storms likely in the Beibu Gulf.
