Two people went missing after their boat was rammed by an allegedly foreign boat off the central province of Thanh Hoa on Sunday.
Hoang Van Thao's boat was rammed while it was fishing in a fishing ground shared with China in the Vinh Bac Bo (the Gulf of Tonkin) at around 5 a.m. that day, Thanh Hoa border guards told Thanh Nien.
The collision threw all seven fishermen onboard into the water, while the other boat immediately left the site without making any rescue efforts.
It was not until around 10 a.m. that same day that fishermen who were working nearby discovered and rescued five fishermen.
They also helped save Thao's boat from sinking.
Two others are still missing.
According to the survivors, the boat could be a foreign one.
Rescue efforts are continuing, while the identity of the boat that caused the accident is being investigated.
