A gold shop in Binh Duong Province was robbed Thursday afternoon, with two men completing the heist at lightning speed before fleeing on motorbikes, according to the jeweler.
At around 2 p.m. two men wearing face masks came to Huynh Hoa 5 gold shop in Tan Uyen District.
The shop owner, Lam Minh Dieu, 51, said he and his daughter were at the shop and thought the two men were customers.
However, the duo suddenly whipped out hammers, broke the glass cabinet and grabbed jewels, he said.
“They were really fast and rushed out to two motorbikes whose riders were waiting outside. It all happened in around 30 seconds.”
Dieu and his daughter chased after them. He threw a stick at them but missed.
The two called off the chase after one of the robbers shouted “kill!”, Dieu said.
At the shop, gold necklaces and bracelets were scattered on the floor.
Dieu estimated that the loss at around 10 taels (375 grams) worth about VND330 million (US$14,850).
The police are hunting for the suspects.
