The Nha Trang police Wednesday arrested two robbers for allegedly snatching a bag from a French tourist a week earlier, Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reported.
At around 3 a.m. on October 17 French woman Colin Charlotte Berangene, 23, and Dutchman Ruben Micheal, 22, were sitting in a park near Tran Phu Street.
Le Xuan Vu, 21, came along on a motorbike with Cao The Thanh, 32, riding pillion and saw a bag at Berangene's feet.
He got off the bike, snatched the bag, and threw it to Thanh.
Micheal rushed towards Thanh in an attempt to retrieve the bag, but hit a tree branch on the roadside and collapsed.
Vu and Thanh fled on the bike. Berangene hailed a taxi to take Michael, who had forehead injuries, broken teeth, and torn lips, to hospital.
She reported to the local police that she lost a mobile phone, a Nikon digital camera, and VND2 million (US$96) in cash.
After arresting the robbers the police said they have been unable to return her bag since Berangene had left the city.
A report by the police said there have been 14 robberies involving foreign tourists in the city since December 2011.
