The four were harvesting cassava in La Pa District when when it began to rain at around 1 p.m.

Nguyen Van Cong, 29, and Ngo Van Cuong, 25, took shelter under a large tree that was struck by a bolt of lightning, and died instantly.

Nguyen Van Thang, 24, and Luong Van Nam, 27, who were heading for the tree, luckily escaped since they were still 50 meters away when the lightning struck.
