A Da Nang court has sentenced two men to 18 and a half years and 18 years in jail for burglarizing dozens of family "worship houses" in the central city and nearby Quang Nam Province since 2010.

The Hoa Vang District People's Court Saturday sentenced Le Loc Thanh, 25, and Luong The Thinh, 18, of Quang Nam's Dien Ban District for breaking into the worship houses of the local Le Trung, Tran Phuoc, Pham, and Nguyen Duc families in 2010 to steal 23 copper incense burners and candle holders.

Thinh broke the locks and Thanh stayed at the gate as the lookout.

They sold the stolen properties locally for a total of VND63 million (US$3,000), but told the court they could not remember to whom they had sold them.

The court ordered them to pay VND63 million to the families.

Thinh confessed to instigating Thanh to do the job because worship houses are easy to break into.

They each got three years for the local jobs and the rest of the sentences for stealing in Cam Le and Ngu Hanh Son Districts in Da Nang and Duy Xuyen and Dien Ban Districts in Quang Nam in 2011, VnExpress reported, but it did not say when and how they had been arrested.
