Two former leaders at a civil verdict enforcement agency in the southern province of Dong Nai have been accused of embezzling billions of dong.
Vo Nhat Tan, 49, former head of Long Thanh Civil Verdict Enforcement Agency and his deputy Nguyen Van Thuc, 50, were arrested on Wednesday, local media reported.
Truong Thi Ngoc Diem, the agency’s former chief accountant, is also investigated on charges of “abuse of power" without detention.
Initial investigation found that the trio were in charge of enforcing several civil verdicts from 2007-2013.
After collecting money from relevant people, they deposited it in several bank accounts, instead of sending it to the right recipients. The money was gradually withdrawn for personal spending.
In early 2016, Diem was assigned to another agency and her successor detected the violations.
Investigators said the trio had taken more than VND3.6 billion (US$161,500) and were unable to return the money.
