An explosion, which kills two workers, leaves a huge hole in the hull of the the Kim An 06 tugboat
Two workers were killed after a tugboat exploded while docking at a port in Ho Chi Minh City Saturday.
At around 9:15 a.m. the Kim An 06 was docking at Rau Qua Port under Phu My Bridge in District 7 and some workers were welding some parts of the boat when the explosion happened.
The blast sent Le Quang Cuong, 25, flying 50 meters away from the boat. He died immediately.
Quach Hoai Nam, 44, was thrown into the river, severely injured. He died later in the hospital.
The tugboat caught fire after the explosion, but the fire was soon put out by firefighting police.
A security guard of the port said he heard a huge bang and thought it was a tire burst before he was told that it was the explosion of the boat.
A police officer told Thanh Nien that sparks from the welding job in the boat may have flown towards the fuel tank and ignited the explosion.
The police are still investigating.
