The first crash happened on Ho Chi Minh City-Trung Luong Highway’s section through Long An’s Thu Thua District at around 4 a.m. when a truck heading for HCMC pulled over under an overpass.
A 50-seater bus traveling on the same direction hit the back of the truck, causing it to flip several times.
The bus plunged into the street barrier and fell into a paddy field.
Nguyen Hoang Vu, 47, an assistant driver on the bus, died on the spot.
Around 15 minutes later, another 50-seater bus traveling past the first crash scene hit a seven-seater car and a taxi from behind.
The sedan then hit the truck, which was still on the road after the first crash.
Nguyen Thi Sen, 59, a passenger on the seven-seater car, succumbed to severe injuries. Seven other people in the cars involved were seriously injured.
