Rescue teams are looking for six missing people in the wake of a boat accident that occurred Wednesday on the Lo River in the northern province of Tuyen Quang.
Two people an old woman and a five-year child - died as a boat carrying 13 people capsized and sank in the river at around 12 p.m. on Wednesday. Five people are known to have survived.
According to the authorities, the accident occurred when Ha Van Binh was driving the metal boat across Lo River to take relatives to his home after an engagement party of one of their relatives.
The child who died was Binh's son, and Binh's wife is still missing.
Online newspaper VnExpress said the boat was overloaded, which was the reason of the mishap, without citing sources.
It also said the six missing people might have died because of the extremely cold water.
The administration of Tuyen Quang Province has given a total of VND7.5 million (US$385) in ex-gratia aid to the families of the two dead people.
