Two people died and 14 others were injured when a bus crashed into a container truck in the north-central province of Ha Tinh early Wednesday.
The accident happened after midnight Tuesday when the passenger bus driven by Tran Duc Tho, 35, traveling from the northern province of Nam Dinh, crashed head-on into the truck driven by Tran Duc Phuc, 29, traveling the opposite direction in Ky Anh District’s Ky Trinh Commune.
Phuc died on the spot.
The crash inverted the bus, killing Dinh Van Chung, 35, a passenger hailing from Nam Dinh Province.
Tho, the driver of the bus, and 13 other passengers were also injured, four of whom (including Tho) seriously. They were rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
Local police are investigating the cause of the accident.
Vietnam's high number of traffic accidents slightly reduced in 2013.
Last year, there were 29,385 traffic accidents, killing 9,369 people and injuring about 29,500 others. In 2012, traffic accidents killed 9,424 people nationwide.
Road accidents are not new to Vietnam. Narrow highways, poorly maintained vehicles and drivers' disregard for road safety and traffic rules are often the cause of most fatalities.
