Police in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong are investigating a case in which two Chinese workers allegedly attacked their Vietnamese counterparts, a local official said Friday.

Liu Jin Fu, 33, was accused of continuously beating the Vietnamese workers with a wooden log at the Nhan Co Alumina Factory on Thursday, according to Tran Van Binh, chief of Nhan Co Commune in Dak R'Lap District.

Another Chinese national, 29-year-old Wang Yong Gang, reportedly wielded a scimitar in order to help Liu ward off counterattacks by the Vietnamese workers, Binh said, adding that after that Wang burned down the Vietnamese workers' tent.

One of the attacked Vietnamese workers who sustained major injuries, Nguyen Van Thang, 30, suffered two broken legs.

A report on Nguoi Lao Dong said that both Liu and Wang were employees of the Chinese-owned Son Dong Aluminum Company, a sub-contractor working at the factory.

It also said that Liu initiated the attack because he thought the Vietnamese workers made fun of him.

The case is being investigated further.
