1.5 tons of undocumented Chinese herbs found in HCMC

Ho Chi Minh City's market management agency Wednesday found over 1.5 tons of herbal medicine allegedly imported from China without documentation.


Officials of the Market Management Team 3A said they found the herbs among more than 2.2 tons of herbs in sacks at a store house hired by three people in District 5.


Initial investigations showed that they bought the herbs for between VND4,000-7,000 kilograms.  


The officials said they found many insects in the herb sacks that have been confiscated for further investigation.


In other news, police in the central city of Da Nang Wednesday confiscated 12,900 packets of Marlboro and Jet brand cigarettes as well as 12 wine bottles without documentation and proper labels on a train running from Hanoi to HCMC.


According to initial information, the goods were loaded on to the train at Dong Ha Station in the central province of Quang Tri and were planned to be distributed in the central provinces of Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh, and the southern province of Dong Nai,


Police said they are investigating the case further.
